According to this study conducted in 2005, the recipients of the flowers evoked a “true smile”, a heartfelt one, as compared to the other kinds of deliveries sent (decorative candle and fruit basket), which did not elicit the same reaction. What this shows is that flowers, even upon the mere sight of them, but also especially upon directly receiving it, do cause people to feel happy.
